An in-person transformative workshop for anyone in a work or life transition and ready to start creating your next
- Are you feeling ready to enter a new phase of your work or life, but not sure what that will look like?
- Are you seeking more clarity, insight, awareness, and next steps...and less distractions or resistance?
- Are you feeling unsure of how to move forward in a constantly-changing world when it feels like there is no solid ground?
- Do you know you still have SO much inside of you (dreams, gifts, talents, aspirations) that you have yet to let out?
- Do you still carry/work stories that feel limiting (or are not even yours), but you are not sure how to let them go?
- Do you resonate with creative approaches to personal and professional growth?
- Do you want to find a sense of meaning in both what has been, and what is emerging?
- Do you know you have something that is yours to offer, even in an unsteady world?
- Are you willing to step into a new chapter? Yes to any of those? Then this is for you!
- Storytelling helps us locate meaning and directional themes that might have been previously invisible for us. Working consciously with our stories (known and emerging) helps us extract opportunities from challenges, express more of who we are, and create next steps, even with a lot of unknowns.
- In this dynamic, highly interactive workshop we'll take deep dives into your stories, imagination, and ways being that nourish your soul and uncover more of your self, along with directional themes in your life or work.
- You will explore and experience storytelling techniques, frameworks, and prompts (from various dimensions) for feeling more resourced in the present, sensing into what's emerging, and feeling more confident in making choices in an uncertain world. Leave with practical actions steps.
- In this workshop we use a variety of whole-brain storytelling techniques to create what's next from exactly where you are.
- Storytelling in a safe space can help us:
- see options and choices previously un-imagined
- uncover relevance, meaning, and purpose
- connect dots the previously were not connectable
- integrate different parts of ourselves into more wholeness
- feel more resilient in the face of uncertainty and adversity
- find inspiration and motivation from unexpected places
- access our creative voice amidst the chaos in the outside world
- have more trust in ourselves and in our path

We'll explore and cultivate our stories from the lens of 5 different dimensions of time and how each holds keys into how to craft our next chapter - even in a rapidly-changing world where so much is uncertain. Plus, it's fun to be a storytelling time traveler!
You'll experience "mining" your stories through different creative languages, both verbally and nonverbally. Each of the creative languages has its own way of storytelling - expanding how we experience our meaning, learnings, gifts...and guidance in what's emerging and what's calling us.
Leave with:
- an experience of an emergent navigation process when the path is not clear that you can use beyond the workshop setting
- more next-level clarity
- more movement, momentum, and self-trust
- understanding more of the "gold" you already have and an integration of different parts of yourself
- your unique set of practical steps in crafting your next chapter
- a Story Playbook PDF with several creative, applicable story-centered exercises and prompts to use beyond the workshop setting
- new connections with others in the group
Anyone can do all of the activities. No artistic, storytelling, or writing experience of any kind needed or expected.
Space is limited for maximum sharing.

Workshop Facilitator Michelle James has been working with Applied Storytelling and Story-based Applied Improvisation for over 2 decades with thousands of people – using hundreds of techniques – in corporations, non-profits, government agencies, public events, special interest and community groups. She's done improv theater for 25 years, and performed full-length improvised plays with Precipice Improv in DC for 10. For the past 7 years, she's been performing with Virginia Playback Theater in central VA. (Playback is another form of story-based theater.)
Michelle ran the Capitol Creativity Network, put on two sold-out Creativity in Business Conferences, and was a member of the Golden Fleece organizational storytelling group for many years. Through her Creative Emergence coaching, she helps her clients consciously create what's next in their work and lives - in a way that expresses their creative soul, generates income, and serves a greater good - working at the the intersection of what's known and what's calling to emerge.
Michelle's personal passion goes beyond sharing/facilitating the techniques to also helping others adapt them, create with them, and make them their own in their unique way. Last year she published a book, Pattern Breaks: A Facilitator's Guide to Cultivating Creativity, which has sections devoted to both Applied Storytelling and Applied Improvisation, among many other creative templates.
